Choosing the Best Camping Lantern

Camping with family and friends is always fun, that is why you would want to possibly bring every camping equipment like camping tents, chairs, grills, heater, coolers, and of course, good source of lighting at night. You wouldn't want to spoil the insurmountable enjoyment by huddling in the dark because you brought a poor quality flashlight or lantern. That is where the wonders of the ever dependable camping lantern come into light. Unlike the typical flash light, it sheds light in the whole area, so just in case you got lost in the wild or when you ran out of wood for your bon fire, you can rely on its trusty light.

Many campers get baffled in buying camping gear, and sometimes ignore the fact that a good natured camping lantern not only gives light but a source of soothing heat as well, especially, when the weather is cold. So for you to choose wisely, you have to consider pointers below when buying these lanterns:

* The traditional kerosene camping lantern is well-known among all camping lanterns. Kerosene is combustible hydrocarbon oil that is being stored in the lantern tank and is fed by means of air pressure into a mantle where it burns up intensely. You can control the level of flame by its switch knob and when the wick burns, fuel supply or the air is exhausted, it will stop providing light. The disadvantage in using this type of lantern is you need a lot of fuel, extra mantles, match to light the wick, and when the lantern accidentally trips, the glass globe may break and a fire problem may befall so be sure to bring a handy fire extinguisher.

* The propane based camping lantern is also popular among campers as it is very convenient to use and creates a brilliant light, however you also need to be careful not to touch a lit lantern - its hot! Your skin can burn and you don't want that. Ensure that you have enough propane for your camping trip and bring spare mantles in case you need to replace it.

* The electric based camping lantern is the safest, cheapest, competent and does not need much maintenance and supervision when left. Although it does not give much heat, it is safe for children's use and you won't have to fret that your kids might get burned. The best part is that you can be confident in leaving it in your tent as it has no fumes and doesn't produce heat as it uses LED, incandescent or fluorescent lamp. When you plan to go nature tripping or hiking when its dark, you wouldn't want trouble in possibilities of burnt wicks and replacing mantle as the electric lantern is durable and lightweight - just remember to carry extra batteries.

With a bit of research before going on a camping trip, you have the above camping lantern options to choose from as it is crucial to be safe and convenient at all times. Have fun in the outdoors and good luck in your adventures!
